Personal Biography
Born in Northampton, England, I was one of the top junior tennis players in the country. I was fortunate enough to travel with the British National Team and compete in numerous countries around the globe including the four major Grand Slam events in Australia, France, London and New York.
On completing my high school diploma, I came to the United States to play in the collegiate system, as a way to continue my athletic career without sacrificing my academic growth. After winning the National Junior College Championships and Rookie of the Year Award at Midland Junior College in west Texas, I transferred to the University of Texas at Austin. I graduated in 1995 with All-American tennis and academic All-American honors, along with a degree with Highest Honors in Education.
After a three year stint on the professional tennis tour, I returned to the University of Texas to complete my Masters degree in Management. During this time I was also working as graduate assistant coach with the men's tennis team. After graduating in 2000, I worked with young college bound tennis players at the St. Stephen's Episcopal School Tennis Academy in Austin, Texas as both coach and academy liason to the school.
After moving to the Midwest, I was presented with the opportunity to do business in an area that had always interested me...financial planning. I could see the widespread need for an independant advisor that wasn't handcuffed by having to push a particular line of products, that could really sit down with and help people manage their financial well-being on an objective basis. With that in mind, and with guidance from veterans with over three decades of experience in the industry, the MidAmerica Financial Group was born and continues to serve individuals and businesses in the Chicagoland area.
With wife Jennifer and sons Jack, Blake, and Dominic, we have lived in St. Charles, Illinois since 2002.

Tony Malano - Investment Advisor Representative & Insurance Services Professional
Tony began working in the financial services industry in 2004. Through the years, he has gained invaluable experience in the industry. Tony accepted a promotion to lead the life insurance division of MidAmerica Financial Group in 2008. Since then, Tony has utilized his expertise to assist over 100 licensed insurance brokers in more than 10 states in the individual and business insurance market. During that period, he has continued to assist and bring value to his personal clients as well.
Tony currently holds the following licenses and education:
-Graduated from Loyola University Chicago with Highest Honors
-Series 6, 63, 65, 26, Securities Industry Essentials, as well as Life and Health Insurance licenses
Tony and his wife, Sabrina, have been married for 19 years and have two children; Joe and Giana. They currently live in the western suburbs of Chicago.
Darrell Malano - CLU, ChFC, MBA - Founder & General Securities Principal
Darrell started Mid America Financial Group in 2006 after taking an early retirement from American General Life Insurance Company.
He began his career as a teacher and coach, but after 15 years left education to enter the financial services industry. He was a General Agent at Franklin Life for 7 years and then accepted a Home Office position as Superintendent of Agencies. He developed numerous leadership programs for the company and was eventually promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales and Chief Marketing Officer, overseeing over 2,000 agents.
Darrell is a decorated Vietnam Veteran serving in the USAF from 1969-1973. He has been married to his wife Charlotte for 50 years. They have 2 children, Jennifer, married to David Draper, and Tony, married to Sabrina Malano. They also have 5 grandchildren, Jack, Blake, and Dominic Draper, and Joe and Giana Malano.
His hobbies include playing golf and watching anything his grandchildren are involved in. Darrell has devoted his career to helping others become better and accomplish their dreams.

Jack Draper - Director of Client Success
Jack joined MidAmerica Financial Group in 2025 as a non-registered assistant. As the Director of Client Success, Jack is working closely with the MidAmerica team to streamline operations, allowing them to focus on client strategy and service. Jack is also undertaking tasks to enhance client communications and elevate our client experience.
Jack is a graduate of Marmion Academy Class of 2020, where he played varsity tennis and was an Executive Officer in the school’s JROTC program.
He earned his Associate in Arts from Elgin Community College, and is currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management.
Jack played college tennis and continues to play today. He is also an avid golfer and enjoys spending time with his family. He is looking forward to working with his family, and developing greater relationships with the clients and advisors of MidAmerica Financial Group.
